Who hasn't been here?Littlejohn's
Seriously, this famous deli has been on the corner for as long as I can remember. They make great sandwiches 24/7 at a fair price. They have a sandwhich for just about everyone's tastes.
There was a dark period of time when they stopped serving chips and a pickle with their orders, but that time has passed. The only other downside? The place is packed and out of control with drunk college students most late nights.
If you haven't been in a while, come on back, the sandwiches change over time.
Upscale SandwichesTake It Away
I enjoy this place quite often, but sometimes leave hungry.
If you are looking for quality, upscale sandwiches, chips, salads, etc this is your place. If you are looking for a large, hunger-quenching sandwich you should keep looking.
One thing that has always befuddled me is why you can get sprouts but not lettuce on your sandwich?
Whatever sandwich you choose, make sure you have them add their House Dressing to it... it is the real reason people frequent this shop.
Best Sandwiches in CvilleBaggby's Gourmet Sandwiches
This place is by far my favorite sandwich shop in Charlottesville. My only complaint is that it is not open on Sundays.
They serve cold and hot sandwiches - and the hot sanwiches aren't just toasted bread like at subway - they are piping hot meat with melted cheese, etc... yum.
They also offer some great soups for those cold days. Definitely try one of their cookies before you go.
Great BBQ in BelmontBelmont Bar-B-Que
Excellent BBQ with lots of choices between sauces and sides. You can get regular or large sandwiches, making it perfect for the whole family. I hear, but have not tried, that the cheesey potatoes are absolutely amazing. The meat is not quite as tender/juicy as Jinx' down the road, but overall the location, sides, and sauces are better.
The place is a little difficult to find if you are not from the area (you drive right past it coming down the hill).
Sketchy Place, Great FoodJinx's Pit's Top
I came across this place while fishing on a nearby river. I seriously thought it was just an old shack until I saw someone come out of the place. The BBQ is some of the best I have ever had - the meat is so tender it is unbelievable. I gave it 4 stars because he does not really have a great sauce - it looks like he uses over the counter BBQ sauce - and he uses white bread instead of buns. I am also pretty sure the place could be closed by fire/safety or the health department at any moment.
if you get it to go, be ready for him to hand you a piping hot tin-foil ball of meat.
